CUKKEMANE

Genesis: Cukkemane: A few centuries ago Brahmin family of Gowthama Gothra from Sagara taluk in Shimoga (Shivamogga) district in Karnataka migrated to the hamlet “Saravu” in Kodapadavu village in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada. At a particular period in history there was no male child to continue the family. The then family members went to Lord Kukke Subramanya to bless them with a male heir. They brought to their home a “Shivalinga” from the Kukke Subramanya temple for daily worshipping. They also sought the blessings of Lord “Lakshmi Narasimha” at the same temple complex with the assurance that “He” will be the “Kula Devaru” henceforth. They had a male heir and the family continued. The descendents of this family identified themselves as belonging to “Cukkemane”.
The present house located at the said original place of our family in Saravu, situated in a beautiful valley of Coconut, Arecanut and Cashew nut groves, was built around 1866 A.D. This ‘moola mane’ is a spacious and beautiful one.
I think there are about 8 to 10 families residing around that place.
